Coming September 30, 2026
Toxic empathy? Suicidal empathy? The sin of empathy?
Some of the most powerful Americans have decided that empathy is bad, toxic, evil, sinful, and unAmerican… which is insane, considering empathy makes a society work. Empathy is how we live together without killing each other. Empathy makes the number one rule of toddlerdom—share!—into policy. And empathy is how we honor one another’s humanity across difference.
Empathy Revolt! is a politics podcast for the Christian Left & Our Friends.
We, of the Christian Left, are not neutral: we think empathy is nonnegotiable. Jesus cared about how we treat each other, and so we care, too. We also think empathy is the best way to protect American democracy from real-life government Nazis…
(We’re anti-Nazi, by the way, which we’re hoping is still legal to say on the internet? We think Jesus* would have also hated Nazis.)
*We do not claim to speak for Jesus, but we will tell you what we think Jesus might have done, felt, and/or thought because we’re bossy and opinionated.
We’re making empathy great again.
Starting on September 30, 2026, we’ll discuss the news from the past week—one political story and one religious story—and invite a guest with a unique perspective to join us.
Our guests are authors, activists, comedians, journalists, faith leaders, scholars, and allies of the Christian Left. Whether you’re allergic to Christianity or you’re a Jesus person, you’re welcome.

Meet the Co-hosts
Jeremy Alder
Jeremy has lived a lot of lives. From fundamentalist Texas homeschool kid and conservative campus activist, to deconstructed theologian, community organizer, and touring stand-up comedian, he’s never stopped trying to understand what the hell is going on and how to make it better—or at least funny.
In his comedy career, Jeremy has worked with Demitri Martin, Russell Howard, Leanne Morgan, Tom Papa, Nicole Byer, and more. His Dry Bar Comedy special, Purity Pants, earned over 7 million views across platforms, he was recently featured on Nateland Presents with Nate Bargatze. His debut comedy album, Almost A Grown Man, is in regular rotation on SiriusXM.
A perpetual student, Jeremy has an M.Div. from Duke Divinity School and is a second-year MSW student at UNC-Chapel Hill. He’ll do anything to avoid getting a real job.
